Six Principles of Responsible Tourism

These are not marketing statements. They are operating commitments that shape every tour, every guide booking, every accommodation recommendation we make. Tourism can be a force for profound good — if it is designed deliberately.

Community Before Convenience

Local guides, local food, local accommodation. When you pay for a tour, 85% of every guide fee stays in Benin Republic. We deliberately route spending through community businesses rather than international chains.

Minimum Footprint

Small group sizes (max 6–8 for nature activities), established paths and campsites only, zero plastic in protected areas. We measure waste generated per tour-day and publish the figures annually.

Wildlife on Its Own Terms

No feeding, no baiting, no artificial light near nesting wildlife, minimum 10-metre distance from all animals. We have refused group bookings that demanded guarantee of sightings. Nature does not perform on schedule.

Cultural Consent

No photography at ceremonies without explicit community permission. No simulated spiritual experiences. No access to sacred spaces without proper introduction. Culture is not a tourist product — it is a living system requiring respectful participation.

Carbon Transparency

We provide estimated carbon footprint data for every tour itinerary and partner with certified offset programmes in Benin’s reforestation projects. Offsetting is not a substitute for reducing emissions — it is the last step, not the first.

Honest Accounting

We publish annual impact reports showing what percentage of tourism revenue reaches local communities, how many local jobs the platform supports, and where our conservation funding goes. Transparency is non-negotiable.

How to offset your Benin trip: We partner with IFFN Benin (reforestation, Atacora region) and Mangrove Bénin (coastal mangrove restoration). Both are Gold Standard certified. A Paris–Cotonou return trip requires approximately €30–35 of certified offsets. This can be added at booking through our platform.
