But Cotonou is more than commerce. The Fondation Zinsou gallery hosts some of the finest contemporary African art exhibitions on the continent, in a neoclassical building that would cause a stir in Paris or New York. The beach clubs of Fidjrossè host a West African social scene of extraordinary energy. And the Haie Vive neighbourhood offers a concentration of excellent restaurants, bars, and clubs that surprises most European visitors who arrive with low expectations.
