Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Cotonou

  • Airport transfer (AJL) to Hôtel. Welcome drink and briefing.

  • Evening: Free time to relax. Dinner at the hotel or a nearby restaurant (on request).

Day 2Cotonou City Tour & Ouidah - The Diaspora Path

  • Morning: Guided tour of Cotonou: Dantokpa Market, the Cathedral, Cotonou Port.
  • Afternoon: Transfer to Ouidah. Visit the Ouidah Museum of History in the old Portuguese Fort. Walk the Route des Esclaves (Slave Route) from the former slave market to the Door of No Return at the beach. Visit the Sacred Forest of Kpassè.

  • Dinner: Themed dinner in Ouidah or return to Cotonou.

Day 3Ganvié & Calavi - The Lake Village

  • Full Day: Departure for Calavi/Abomey-Calavi. Boat excursion on Lake Nokoué to the unique stilt village of Ganvié (“Venice of Africa”). Discover the history, lifestyle, and crafts of the Tofinu people. Lunch at a lakefront restaurant.
  • Late Afternoon: Return to Cotonou. Free evening.

Day 4Porto-Novo - The Administrative Capital

  • Full Day: Excursion to Porto-Novo. Visit the Ethnographic Museum, the King Toffa’s Palace (Honmè Museum), the Brazilian Quarter with its Afro-Brazilian architecture, and the Great Mosque (built in Brazilian style). Discover the unique heritage of this cultural capital.

  • Return to Cotonou in the evening.

Day 5Abomey - The Royal Kingdoms (Part 1)

  • Full Day: Departure for Abomey, capital of the former Dahomey Kingdom. Visit the Royal Palaces of Abomey, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, including the Historical Museum housed within. Discover the history of the Fon kings, the Amazons (Mino), and the powerful empire.

  • Overnight in Abomey (suggested hotel) to break the long journey and deepen the experience.

Day 6Abomey & Return to Cotonou
